Winter Mint Cocoa Latte

Winter is almost here, and with colder days setting in, it's the perfect season to bring out comforting, hot drinks. When it comes to flavors that instantly make you think of winter, mint and cocoa are always at the top of the list. The cool, refreshing taste of mint pairs naturally with the deep, chocolatey richness of cocoa, making them a classic combination for the colder months.

This recipe is for a winter mint cocoa tea latte, an easy drink you can make at home without much effort. It's lighter than hot chocolate but still has that cozy, chocolate-mint flavor. Let's begin.

Ingredients

  • 1 peppermint tea bag (or 1 tsp loose-leaf peppermint tea)
  • ½ cup hot water (around 175–185°F / 80–85°C)
  • ½ cup milk of your choice (dairy, oat, almond, or cashew)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1–2 tsp sweetener (sugar, honey, or maple syrup)
  • Optional: whipped cream or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for topping

Directions

  1. Brew the tea: Steep the peppermint tea in hot water for 3–5 minutes, depending on how strong you like the peppermint flavor. Remove the tea bag or strain the leaves.
  2. Mix the chocolate: In a small saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sweetener, and 2–3 tbsp of milk to create a smooth chocolate paste.
  3. Combine: Add the brewed peppermint tea and remaining milk to the saucepan. Warm over medium heat, whisking constantly until frothy.
  4. Serve: Pour into your favorite mug. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder or crushed peppermint, or a candy cane if desired.
  5. Optional: Add a drop of vanilla extract or a tiny pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth.
